Kinetic Orchestra - Taideosuuskunta Apinatarha
Helsinki, Uusimaa
Kinetic Orchestra is a contemporary dance group founded in Helsinki in 2009. The artistic director of the group is its founder, choreographer Jarkko Mandelin. The group consists of two dancers on monthly salaries and an executive producer. Each year, the group hires 20–30 arts professionals for project-based employment.
Movement is at the heart of Kinetic Orchestra's art: the group has a strong and distinctive movement language based on acrobatics, martial arts and partner techniques, which is both artistically and technically high-quality and appeals to a wide audience with its spectacular nature. The target audience is young people (aged 15-30). The group's diverse repertoire includes works suitable for both large and small stages. The group also has works for the whole family. Collaboration with contemporary circus artists and groups has broadened the group's artistic profile and increased networking opportunities. In recent years, the group has also toured throughout Finland.
We are interested in all kinds of collaborative projects, networking and touring, both domestically and internationally. We organise the annual Spring Break festival and Flip summer course. Spring Break features performances from Finland and around the world. In recent years, we have been involved in, among other things, Uudet Klassikot (New Classics) and Taidetestaajat (Art Testers). Our activities are currently supported by 2025: Taike, the City of Helsinki and the Kone Foundation. Kinetic Orchestra is an auxiliary name of the Taideosuuskunta Apinatarha (Art Cooperative Apinatarha).
Kinetic Orchestra is the auxiliary name of the Apinatarha Art Cooperative.
