Kalle Talonen & Nenän poetry music performance

Kalle Talonen & Nenä poetry music duo consists of Turku-based poet Kalle Talonen and Pori-based musician Nenä. Kalle interprets his own texts, most of which are taken from his own poetry books.
Nenä sings, creates loops and plays keyboards, trumpet, flute and anything else he can get his hands on. Kalle Talonen & Nenä smoothly combine the marginalised genre of poetry music with populist entertainment for the audience. Poetry enhanced with music and soundscapes is moving, but also makes you laugh live. The topics range from peeling potatoes to the creation of the universe, from social to personal – sometimes even within the same song.

The gigs are known for their theatrical elements, their intense and sensitive performances, and their unique surprises. The genre is such that few others in Finland do it or even know about it. The best and most surprising feedback at gigs usually comes from people who
had little prior knowledge of the band or the art form in question. Outside of poetry music, Kalle Talonen and Karri Laihonen, the artist behind the stage name Nenä, have also collaborated for years at Yleisradio, and are particularly well known in southwestern Finland as the voices of Radio
Suomen's morning broadcasts. However, the duo's poetry videos perhaps best illustrate their work. A link to the videos is provided below. "I didn't know this existed. This is so damn funny and makes me want to cry a little at the same time."

- A man, after seeing Kalle Talonen & Nenä perform at his local pub without knowing anything about the band or poetry music beforehand.

Nenä: vocals and all instruments, loops, occasional interludes and moshing The texts performed are based on Kalle Talonen's published poetry books and new, as yet unpublished texts. TARGET AUDIENCE: Anyone interested in poetry, music, performance art and interdisciplinary art
as well as all those service station blokes and chicks who didn't know they could enjoy poetry music before seeing the performance. Experience Kalle Talonen & Nenä and be surprised that poetry can be both touching and fun at the same time.
