Studio SISU

SISU is a working group formed by Sini Parikka and Suvi Saastamoinen,
and environmental art, operating at the intersection of these disciplines and forming a cross-disciplinary network.
The aim is to create bold, artistic initiatives and projects that utilise the circular economy. Art makes people stop and take notice, and it can be used to spark discussion even on difficult topics.
As professionals in the creative sectors, Parikka and Saastamoinen possess strong
place-based expertise in functional and visual environments, ranging from conceptualisation and design to project management and construction.
Studio SISU approaches public art as an interactive and experimental process. Even temporary works are seen as part of the ongoing transformation and development of urban space.

to crawl into a giant insect hotel.
Materials that would normally disappear underground form a new kind of habitat
– a place to reflect on who the city is actually being built for, and what the world would look like as a neighbour to a bumblebee?

2026 | Demolition Art 10th Anniversary Exhibition, Helsinki
It’s easy to turn a blind eye to the problem of plastic in the oceans, as most of the waste has
sunk below the surface. The artwork transports the viewer to the bottom of an eutrophicated waterbody, and awakens them to the reality of this beautiful vegetation. Cruise announcements drifting in from afar serve as a reminder:
plastic is the consumer good of a lazy society.
ROKKO
Turku’s Path of Light 2024, Helsinki’s Oddfest 2025, Kotka’s Aaltoja! 2025
Rokko, a surprising and activist light installation that integrates with urban space and architecture,
raises awareness of the problem of marine plastic waste and the loss of nature through storytelling. The work takes its form from the most common invasive species in the Baltic Sea, the zebra mussel.
LOVE LETTERS
2023 | Stories of the Future, Espoo Waterfront Trail
2024 | Kesäkatu, Turku
An art concept highlighting the diversity of our relationship with nature, in which free-form love letters to nature were collected through an open call. The curated letters were read aloud onto tape and installed within a spatial installation, inviting visitors to pause and listen. The work has been realised in various forms and on different scales.
