Afrocosmos & Pauliina Diallo project
Afrocosmos & Pauliina Diallo is a highly interactive and rhythmic group. Pauliina Diallo's voice and dance bring with them primitive, traditional songs and earthy dances, in which Diallo combines her own fluid choreography with traditional West African movements. In her performances, Diallo dances, sings and plays together with the Afrocosmos group. The stage is filled with the melodic sounds of the balafon, the delicate chirping of birds and the rhythms of West African drums. The Afrocosmos & Pauliina Diallo project enriches the cultural landscape and offers a unique artistic experience for both performers and audiences.
These dance and Afro-music events are an essential part of the project, as they strengthen the sense of community and bring art closer to people.
The aim of the project is to make people aware of the similarities between West African and Finnish music through creative dance and music. Introduction video link https://youtu.be/yBGz9sHT-wY
Afrocosmos & Pauliina Diallo project. Pauliina Diallo I am a dance artist, director and teacher living in Hyvinkää. At the core of my work are the connection between movement and music, improvisation, presence and lively interaction with the audience.
I have been working with dance and performing arts for over 20 years and have been actively involved in African dance and music. I have visited Guinea twice to learn dances and rhythms, and since 2000 I have been a dancer, musician and singer in the African dance and music group Wonuwali. The group has performed at venues such as the Savoy Theatre, the Etnofaces Festival, the Caisa Cultural Centre, the World Village Festival in Helsinki, and in Beijing and Wuhan in China.
I have also performed in the African dance fairy tale Dogs, Monkeys and the Peanut Field, in which I worked as a dancer, singer and musician. The performance originated in Annantalo, Helsinki, in 2016.
Osmo Liikanen is the project leader and musician, playing percussion instruments and drums for about 35 years in various orchestras and musicals (including appearances on MTV Oy music programmes as a percussionist
La Strada, Jari Sillanpää, Unicorn, Marita Taavistsainen, Anita Hirvonen, Afrocosmos, EL duo, Hörhö, Jimmi Hedrix tribute, Teaches Blues, etc.). Sound effects at art events and dance accompaniment.
