Yksiö explores loneliness, feeling stuck in one place, the fear of life, and the good and bad choices we make. Hannu Räisä’s skilful puppetry is accompanied by Marko Haavisto’s magnificent music and singing.

The protagonist is Rauno Lahtinen, a middle-aged actor who can’t seem to get anything done. Various excuses and generational male traumas prevent him from moving forward in his life. Rauno is stuck in the glory days of his past, in a role in a film by Mikko Niskanen.

Life is full of choices; sometimes they turn out better than others. Each of us has surely, at some point, reflected on our own choices, wondering where we might be now if we’d chosen differently. But what if, for some reason, life has come to a standstill, stuck on a loop, and we can’t move forward for one reason or another? A build-up of problems can trap a person in a cycle where they live in the success of yesterday rather than in the present moment.

Hannu Räisä performs as the puppeteer, whilst Marko Haavisto provides the vocals and plays the guitar. The production is directed by Antti Kemppainen. The script was written by the production team. The music was composed by Marko Haavisto
