Wise Matti and Other Stories
Wise Matti and Other Stories is a touring production by puppeteer Timo Väntsi and musician Kari Mäkiranta, consisting of five short stories. It is suitable for family celebrations, cultural venues, parks or library reading rooms. Featuring the joy of puppetry and lively music, the show is ideal as a first theatre experience for young theatregoers, but the humour and wisdom of these folk tales will also delight primary school children, teenagers and adult audiences alike.
The stories in the programme are *The Pike and the Roach*, *Wise Matti and the Devil in the Fields*, *The House Elf Finds a Home*, *Pampiainen the Wasp* and *Matti and His Last Wish*.
The stories are simple and, in parts, rather zany, but they contain time-honoured wisdom. And, in part, they also feature the poetic metre of *Kantelettaren*.
Script and concept by Timo Väntsi and Kari Mäkiranta; puppets by Timo Väntsi; music by Kari Mäkiranta; directed by Marja Susi. Premiere in 2021. The Väntsi–Mäkiranta duo have a wealth of performance experience in a wide variety of venues.
