IN MEMORY OF AGASIAS, THE DONKEY
A PERFORMANCE ABOUT OSTRACISM, SILENCE AND A FORGOTTEN DONKEY
The interactive performance In Memory of Agasias, the Donkey takes its cue from the ancient legal practice of ostracism. Democratic society in Athens was fragile. As a safeguard, citizens were given the opportunity to banish anyone perceived as a threat. But the power to vote someone out could also be abused.
Excluding someone is both a means of bringing about change and a terrible punishment. *In Memory of Agasias* explores and examines issues of ostracism and silence. From small-scale contexts, such as the relationship between a child and a parent, to situations between friends and classmates, and right up to questions concerning society at large.
The performance is primarily aimed at lower secondary and upper secondary schools but can also be staged in theatres for adult audiences. It can be booked for venues such as classrooms and libraries
