MARU – Stories Beyond Words
MARU – Stories Beyond Words is an audiovisual concert piece in which live guitar music, moving images and light come together to form a wordless story. At the heart of the work are musician and composer Maru Grönroos’s own compositions and the warm, delicate sound of the nylon-string guitar.
The music draws inspiration from northern nature, the changing seasons and the human experience: longing, change, comfort and hope. Projected images complement the music, evoking landscapes and moods in which the listener can discover their own memories and meanings.
The performance, lasting approximately 40–50 minutes, forms a cohesive whole created in collaboration with the director and the visual designer. Music, imagery, light and silence drive the work forward, whilst subtle theatrical elements deepen its atmosphere. MARU’s own musical expression and presence remain at the heart of the work.
The aim of the performance is to create a space for reflection and shared experience — a performance that gives free rein to the imagination and resonates across linguistic boundaries.
