The Toymaker’s Winter is a heart-warming story about the unexpected friendship between a reclusive toymaker and a lost man.

The story is set in a wintry rural landscape and a small house where the reclusive Toy Master has taken up residence, having grown weary of the noise and hustle and bustle of the city. He is kept company by a cat, toys awaiting repair and erratic radios that keep him up to date with world events.

One stormy winter’s day, the Toymaker’s day takes an unexpected turn when a man travelling to celebrate Christmas drives his car into a snowdrift in front of the house. Despite their best efforts to help, the car won’t budge, and the stranger is forced to stay in the house whilst the snowstorm rages. Neither of them is happy about this turn of events, and their first encounter is far from smooth. Gradually, however, the ice begins to melt and a friendship blossoms between the two strangers.

The Royal Puppet Theatre’s multi-layered story, rich in small details, warms the heart and offers food for thought even for adults.
