Maalamus is an exceptional and interdisciplinary duo that combines live music and painting into improvised performances.

Painter Satu Salomaa’s abstract paintings and pianist-keyboardist Paula Präktig’s exploratory music open up a space for the audience to observe their sensations and the images these evoke. At the same time, the ‘horizon of possibilities’ associated with the creative process becomes visible.

For the audience, the performance is like a wordless story, whose characters and events are born and live in the moment, leading them into a world of imagination and interpretation. As the performance is based on improvisation, it is different every time. Painting and music interact freely not only with each other, but also with the surroundings and the audience!
