Your Solo in Me – step into the choreographer’s shoes!
Step into the shoes of a choreographer! Your Solo in Me is a participatory dance performance where the audience is in control.
The performance turns the audience into artists as dance artist Patrik Riipinen brings the participants' visions to life before their very eyes. What kind of dance scenes will emerge when the audience is given the power to decide on the costumes, music, theme and use of space in the performance?
In this workshop-style performance, participants get to try their hand at the choices involved in choreography and admire the work created by themselves or other audience members.
Thanks to its minimalist set design, Your Solo in Me is easy to move around and can be performed in a variety of venues, both indoors and in peaceful outdoor spaces. The performance features one dancer. In addition, there is an assistant who encourages and guides the audience in creating works. The audience can change and move around during the performance.
The work has been performed in gallery settings at the Mältinranta Art Centre, Galleria Ranka and HAA Gallery, as well as part of larger events such as the Lumina Festival, the Yksin sateessa festival and KokoTeatteri in 2022-2025. The work was also presented on a tour of 15 libraries in autumn 2025 with the support of the Espoo City Cultural Committee. The work is suitable for all ages, invites participation with a low threshold and creates communal encounters. On the other hand, it allows the viewer to try their hand at making art and reflect on their experience in depth. Working group: Concept and performance: Patrik Riipinen

Technical requirements
The lighting conditions can be similar to those normally found in the venue. The performance does not require any special stage lighting. The performance requires standard sound equipment that can be connected to a computer. In venues without a fixed sound system, the working group's own portable speaker can also be used (e.g. outdoor venues). The assistant plays the music from their own computer. If more than 70 people are expected to attend or the venue is very large, a microphone is also required for the assistant to give instructions to the audience.
