Take plastic into your own hands workshop

muovikollaasi
The Take Plastic into Your Own Hands workshop invites participants to explore the possibilities of recycled plastic through art and design. The work makes the life cycle of plastic waste visible as everyday waste is transformed in the participants' hands into a sustainable, visually interesting raw material and ultimately into a new product. Experiential learning reinforces environmentally responsible thinking. The Take Plastic into Your Own Hands workshop is ideal for educational institutions. The workshop begins by using plastic bags to make a fabric-like material, utilising the colours and prints of the bags, such as patterns, texts and symbols. The process uses the collage method and Muoviamo equipment. The plastic is cut, torn and stretched, and the layers, colours and shapes are played with.

The plastic fabric can be used, for example, as a painting, window decoration or table mat, or it can be further processed into a wallet, plastic case or passport/notebook cover (depending on the size of the group). You can take your own creation home with you immediately.

The experimental atmosphere and openness to chance give rise to insights and delightful visual surprises. In this workshop, everyone can easily experience success! The versatile use of plastic bags strengthens fine motor skills, feeds creativity and teaches how to interpret information and visual information through the symbols, markings, texts and logos on plastic bags. At the same time, the workshop teaches participants to value the reuse of materials and increases environmental awareness. The workshop can use either Muoviamo's materials or participants can collect plastic bags themselves. We recommend collecting your own bags, as this makes the experience more personal and connects the origin of the plastic waste to the story of the recycled plastic product. Feedback from participants:

“Seeing my plastic waste transform into something beautiful and useful changed my perspective on disposing and classifying my plastic waste.” “A very effective and inspiring concept. It illustrates recycling wonderfully to immigrant children.”

“I highly recommend it!” “Thank you, it was really nice to visit Muoviamo in the spring. You have wonderful instructors and a relaxed, friendly and inspiring atmosphere!” Groups of less than 20 people have one instructor, while groups of more than 20 people have two.

Technical requirements
