Someone I knew – performance for older people
Someone I knew is a solo dance performance aimed at older people and their loved ones. The performance is suitable for people with different levels of functional ability and for different environments, such as care homes.
The work was inspired by the personal experience of being close to an elderly person with memory problems. In the performance, this personal experience is transformed into a more general and universal description of humanity, letting go and acceptance. Someone I knew speaks for humanity and the importance of a sense of security that permeates one's entire life.
The dance, costume and sound design interact strongly in the work, depicting relationships between people or an individual's relationship with themselves, the processing of memories, rejection, security, self-forgetfulness and hope. The dance theatre expression of the work can be experienced physically; the dancer's body language and vivid presence also touch the audience on an emotional level. A short dance workshop (15-20 minutes) can be added to the performance, taking place immediately after the show. WORKING GROUP

Someone I Knew is the final part of the working group's trilogy. The first part of the trilogy, MARTAT, was inspired by the evacuation journeys of the Karelian refugees and has toured nursing homes for the elderly in Helsinki and Pirkanmaa as part of the National Theatre's touring programme. The second part, A Couple of Humans, is an internationally touring contemporary dance work that relies on strong visuals and live video projection. Premiere 13 May 2025
