Tommi Parkko

Helsinki, Uusimaa

I am a poet, non-fiction writer, creative writing teacher and publisher. Since 1994, I have worked mainly in the field of poetry on a full-time basis. From 2001 to 2024, I served as a literary advisor to the Arts Council of Southwest Finland. I have published five collections of poetry, the most recent of which, Aaseista ja varjoista (Aviador), came out in the winter of 2026. In addition to poetry collections, I have written five non-fiction books on poetry. I strive to promote poetry in every way I can, but I also earn my living from it. I invoice my work through the Kirjasin cooperative. I also work on a tax card, but as a rule I invoice.

I offer manuscript editing services, run sparring groups specialising in poetry collections, and run a translation poetry publishing house. I am available for bookings at libraries, reading circles, and similar events. I also run shorter and longer writing courses. I particularly enjoy teaching novice poets and advanced poetry collection authors. I teach creative writing courses at open universities, including the Helsinki Summer University and Omnia in Espoo.

I can also be booked to speak about poetry at home. Runoware events are about poetry and presenting books published by Kustannusliike Parko. I come for free, but I hope to sell a few books. Runoware invitations work like Tupperware parties.

I live in Helsinki, but I have my own car and can easily travel wherever I am needed.
