Aila Ala-Aho
Aylan musiikki- ja taidetoiminta
Ostrobothnia, Vaasa
I am a community musician, a social worker and an early years teacher, as well as a musician. I have completed a qualification in community music and basic studies in music therapy, which have equipped me to deliver care music and participatory music activities in various communities and for different target groups, from children to the elderly. My instruments are the accordion, singing, the clarinet, the recorder and the ukulele.
I offer musical stimulation activities in care homes, senior citizens’ clubs and other care settings, as well as in patient and peer support groups. I also offer low-threshold
music play sessions and children’s music for families with young children; play and interaction through music.
Customer references
I have worked as a community musician with a working grant from the South Ostrobothnia Cultural Foundation from 1 August to 30 November 2024 and from 1 January to 31 August 2026, during which time I have led a wide range of music activities in the Ostrobothnia welfare region and within family organisations.
As part of my community musician studies, I carried out projects in a nursery, in remote stimulation activities for elderly people receiving home care, in a care home and in a residential unit for people recovering from mental health issues.
I have been an active member of the Wasa Sinfonietta symphony orchestra, the Sulva wind orchestra and the MPK-Pohjanmaa band as a clarinettist, as well as serving as musical director of the Vaasa Accordion Club.
I am a member of the music therapy association Musisoiva and its SaiHoi committee, which aim to promote the role and networking of hospital and care musicians, as well as to raise awareness of the wellbeing benefits of music.
