Runopicnik is an engaging, community-based and accessible performance. It can be staged in any kind of space, indoors or outdoors. A Runopicnik performance can be tailored to a specific theme or based on the participants’ current interests.

Runopicnik makes extensive use of improvisation techniques, as well as the ‘chance poetry technique’ and ‘conversational poetry’ developed by our theatre. Participants are invited to take words—written in advance and relevant to the theme—from a poetry bowl, from which they can then craft poems and texts either on their own or together with the artists in the working group. During the performance, participants can also collaboratively add words and phrases to pre-prepared poetry templates. All these texts are presented either together with the participants or by the group of artists. Finally, the poems and texts are hung on washing lines for display, where they can be read after the performance.

The whole piece is a hybrid form between a performance and a live art piece that stimulates thought and imagination, whilst being playful and full of surprises.
