Wilma-Emilia Kuosa Company
Helsinki, Uusimaa
Wilma-Emilia Kuosa Company (WEKC) creates impressive jazz dance experiences both in the independent arts scene and in customised productions for companies and events. We are a community of professional artists who boldly explore the possibilities of jazz dance in a contemporary context. WEKC was founded around jazz dance artist Wilma-Emilia Kuosa, and the group's activities are international. Our works draw on the rich tradition of jazz dance and explore rhythm in the body, space and performance context. In our movement language, history meets the present – we celebrate our heritage and challenge perceptions of what jazz dance can be today.
Our community consists of artists from different backgrounds who share a unique relationship with jazz dance. Diversity is our strength. In our performances, we fuse light art, the tradition of drama theatre, virtuoso dance art, sound art and contemporary poetry into a coherent whole. WEKC is the only professional group in Finland that focuses on interpreting jazz dance at a professional level. Long-term collaboration and strong mutual trust create a foundation for artistic courage – and experiences that touch the soul. WEKC works in collaboration with Arts Management Helsinki, through which invoicing takes place.
