Mänttä-Vilppula, Pirkanmaa
The centuries-old Vehkaniemi family farm, which is of great cultural and historical value, is located in a beautiful natural setting on the shores of Lake Vehkajärvi in Pohjaslahti, Mänttä-Vilppula. The first records of the farm date back to 1565. The authentic farmyard complex includes many cosy spaces for accommodation, parties and other gatherings.
Vehkaniemi Art Summer showcases Finnish art, design and crafts, organises live concerts, lectures and other events, for example in the banquet facilities of the old Kivinavetta barn. The Art Café is open to the public by arrangement. Guided tours for groups are available on request. Exhibition, meeting and party facilities are available for hire.
The current owner is an architect and has gradually renovated the extensive building complex of his family farm with respect for the old, in accordance with the instructions of the National Board of Antiquities. Most of the buildings date from the early 1840s, with some from the 18th century, and they are protected as a culturally and historically valuable, unusually well-preserved complex.
