Terhi Adler

Terhi Adler, Studio Adler

Helsinki, Uusimaa

I am Terhi Adler, an illustrator, graphic designer and comic book artist from Helsinki. I specialise in image creation in various media, storytelling and publication design. I have worked mainly with publishing houses, organisations and cultural actors (e.g. festivals). In addition, I create murals, installations and handicrafts, and I also teach these skills to others.

You can purchase graphic redesigns, product illustrations, murals or workshops from me, even for company incentive days. In addition, I occasionally do independent artistic projects, such as illustrated books or comics. I am also active in cultural organisations: I have served on the board of the comic book collective Kutikuti ry and am now transitioning to a position at Kuvittajat ry. In addition to these, I am also a member of Sarjakuvantekijät ry, Grafia ry, G-Rex and ADGE.

I trained as a graphic designer and illustrator at Aalto University's School of Arts, Design and Architecture, first as a bachelor's student in 2018 and then as a master's student in 2021 (visual communication design, majoring in Visual Narrative). I have completed minor subjects in comic book expression, pattern design and packaging design, as well as animation studies during an exchange at Tama Art University in Japan. Prior to this, I studied art and design at the Lahti Institute of Design and the Pekka Halonen Academy, among others. I therefore have solid experience from my studies, and I have also worked for Aalto University.

Customer references

I have been working with Kustannusliike Parko since 2018, where I am responsible for the visual appearance of all books: I design, lay out and illustrate them. I have worked for Kutikuti ry for a few years, doing everything from campaign planning to illustration, magazine curation/editing and exhibition design. In 2022-23, I did design and illustration work for the UN sub-organisation UNGP. My most recent work was illustrations for Ecophon, which were created in connection with the launch of their new colours. I have also done illustrations for various books and magazines, such as Tulva, Zelda and Astra. My public art can be seen in Pasila as part of the Helsinki Urban Art street art district, where I created two murals depicting local medicinal and poisonous plants in 2022 and 2023. I have also created murals for the Flow Festival (2018) and the Querelle Festival (2019). I participated in the latest Purkutaide exhibition with my three-dimensional comic book (a new art form that I have been involved in developing). My comics have been published in magazines and anthologies, as well as self-published. I have taught workshops organised by the Comics Society, Kutikut, Kollektiivi and Sasha&Bo, as well as lectures at Aalto University (Illustration studio), for example on riso printing, comics and collage techniques.
