Sirja Puurtinen

Tmi Sirja Puurtinen

Helsinki, Uusimaa

I am an artist, musician and educator who has expanded my artistic practice to include workshops and experiential services. My starting point is the idea that the world needs art – not just in the cultural sphere, but as part of everyday life, workplaces and society.

My work combines improvisation, music and experiential exercises, which help to strengthen presence, self-awareness, interaction and the ability to navigate a changing world.

My background lies in classical music, dance and theatre. I am a qualified music teacher, musician and hold a Master of Arts degree (Aalto University), and I have worked for around 20 years in the fields of music, theatre, dance, and sound and media art. Alongside my professional services, I am actively involved as an artist, violinist, composer and sound designer.

Customer references

For around 20 years, I have worked in the fields of music, the performing arts and arts education as a violinist, composer and sound designer, music creator and teacher. I have performed as a violinist at numerous venues, from Musiikkitalo to the main stage at Flow Festival, and have composed and designed sound for the stages of Zodiak and Mad House Helsinki, amongst others. As a teacher, I have worked for the City of Helsinki, the Central Helsinki Music School and Musaamo, amongst others.

I have designed and delivered workshops, courses, community-based musical experiences and other artistic programmes for organisations including the Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce, MUU ry, Zodiak, Aalto University and the Metanoia Institute.

My current community-based and socially engaged art projects include the Harmonia Club, where improvised music meets philosophical, artistic and scientific perspectives, and the Rauhankuoro choir, which is open to all and explores peace through communal singing and music.
