I have been working as a visual artist since 2001. I have had the opportunity to experiment freely with different tools and materials, and I believe I have found my own unique ways of creating art. Visual arts have allowed me to focus my interest on many different areas, such as set design, puppet theatre and history. For me, this exploration of different techniques and subjects is at the heart of making art, even though it may appear unstructured to an outsider.
In recent years, I have created three-dimensional scenes, dioramas and pop-up books painted with watercolours on cardboard and paper. The themes of these miniature scenes lie somewhere between dreamlike visions and reality. In my works, I want to create a certain atmosphere and space that the viewer can enter. I don't actually tell stories, but rather create a setting for them. I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2001 as a graphic artist, but by my own choice I have mainly done other things since graduating. However, over the past two years, I have returned to traditional line etching, or etching. In addition to the above, I trained as a restoration and speciality painter (Artesaani) in the 1990s. This has certainly influenced my ability to move between different techniques and given me confidence in my choice of materials.
