Eila Minkkinen-Niinimäki taiteilijanimi Eila Minkkinen

Rauma, Satakunta

I am a sculptor and I use different metals as my material. I studied at the School of Arts and Design in the departments of metal art and industrial design. The school is now Aalto University. I also studied at a gold and silversmith's workshop for three years. After completing my studies, I started working in my own studio in 1969. I acquired silversmithing tools and initially made silver jewellery and jewellery from other materials such as domestic stones, enamel, amber, bone, wood, etc. Paper jewellery was new in Finland in 1986 and attracted a lot of attention.
Gradually, my works grew in size, and I began using steel, brass and copper for large wall reliefs. In 2015, I worked with glassblowers in Nuutajärvi and combined gold, silver and copper with glass sculptures on walls.
My works have always featured some kind of natural theme or form.
