Aurinkobaletti is a contemporary dance company and dance theatre based in Turku, whose repertoire includes performances for both adults and children. The group has been praised for its capacity for renewal and its strong ensemble, which is prepared to break the boundaries of its own genre. Riku Lehtopolku serves as Aurinkobaletti’s artistic director.
The group’s activities are guided by a sense of community, versatility and openness to new trends. Aurinkobaletti’s central aim is to uphold the status of dance alongside other arts and to bring dance to places where it is not otherwise available. Interdisciplinary productions and diverse audience engagement are part of Aurinkobaletti’s daily work.
Aurinkobaletti’s activities are supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the City of Turku, which enable the creation of art, the employment of dance artists and the development of activities throughout the year. Aurinkobaletti’s home stage is located at the Manilla Culture Factory on the banks of the Aura River in Turku.

Founded in 1981, Aurinkobaletti has staged over 150 dance productions. There are 2–4 premieres each year, and 80–100 individual performances.
Aurinkobaletti regularly undertakes various co-productions with other dance companies and theatres. The company’s partners have included Turku City Theatre, Åbo Svenska Teater, Turku Music Festival, Dance Theatre Raatikko, Dance Theatre Rimpparemmi, Tehdas Theatre and Aura of Puppets.
Aurinkobaletti has hosted many leading Finnish choreographers and a number of prominent international names, such as Carolyn Carlson, Boris Eifman, Andrew deGroat, Kilina Crémona, Sasha Pepeljajev, Alpo Aaltokoski, Jyrki Karttunen, Sanna Kekäläinen, Tommi Kitti, Marjo Kuusela, Jarkko Mandelin, Kirsi Monni, Ari Numminen, Matti Paloniemi, Virpi Pahkinen, Arja Raatikainen, Tuomo Railo, Sami Saikkonen and Jorma Uotinen.
