alves Ludovico

Helsinki, Uusimaa

Alves Ludovico is a Portuguese artist based in Helsinki whose practice investigates the entanglements between material consumption, ecological balance, and interspecies well-being. Working primarily through sculptural installations, moving image, and experimental biomaterials, his work bridges fiction and critical research to question extractive systems—both terrestrial and extraterrestrial.

Over the past six years, he has developed a material practice centered on sugar, exploring its potential as a biodegradable sculptural medium and speculative bioplastic in collaboration with researchers at Aalto University. His projects often combine craft techniques, industrial references, and speculative narratives to address themes such as colonial histories, resource exploitation, and space expansion.

Currently completing a Master’s degree in Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, Ludovico has studied at Aalto University (FI) and the National Academy of the Arts (NO). His work has been exhibited internationally and is organized around long-term research frameworks including The Emergence of Anthropocarillius and Spaceways to Earthly Matters, which reimagine ecological futures through material experimentation and critical world-building.
