Participatory community mural
In a participatory mural, a group designs and paints a collaborative wall artwork under the guidance of an artist. The artwork may be based on the participants’ own ideas, in which case the artist compiles them into a sketch, guides the painting process and puts the final touches to the piece. No previous experience is required, and there is a task for everyone, regardless of skill level.
The finished mural may remain permanently in the community space. The process strengthens the group’s team spirit and gives participants the experience of having made a difference to their own environment. Where necessary, the session utilises solution-focused art therapy methods.
The service includes a preliminary meeting (which can also be held remotely), planning, guidance, the finished mural and documentation. The artist Eka Teriina Vea Kosonen is responsible for the project. An assistant may be present for larger groups.
