Eka Teriina Vea Kosonen

Kotka, Kymenlaakso

Eka Teriina Vea Kosonen is a visual artist, art educator and community artist from Kotka. She works with murals, street art and participatory art, and designs and leads process-oriented art activities.

She carries out commissions for:

– murals and spray-painted artworks for local authorities, schools, housing associations and businesses.
– participatory community art projects, in which a group paints or builds a work together.
– art workshops for children, young people, adults and older people.
– art activities for events and in parks, e.g. the ‘Taiteen Hetki’ concept.
– the conception, curation and production of cultural events.

Kosonen leads groups with a low threshold for participation. No prior experience is required of participants, and she adapts her working methods to suit the group’s age and needs. She also has experience of working with groups requiring special support.

Education: Visual Arts Artisan (KSAO), multimedia studies (HEO), studies in art history and educational sciences (University of Jyväskylä), basic qualification in applied arts (SASKY), practical nurse (EKAMI), training as a solution-focused art therapy instructor, and a specialised vocational qualification in art therapy (Alfa Partners Academy).

Kosonen manages projects from start to finish: planning, budgeting, funding applications, implementation and reporting.

Kanvaasi Art Space, Kotka (2018–): founder and coordinator of an open community art space. Kanvaasi received the City of Kotka’s Art Award in 2024.

Taiteen Hetki 2025–2026: free, participatory art activities in Kotka’s parks. In 2026, five park events and the ‘Taiteen Hetki Lounge’ at the Kotka Maritime Festival (an event attracting nearly 210,000 visitors) in collaboration with the city’s events services. Approximately 120 participants, compared to around 90 the previous year. In addition, a commissioned project for the Kakspy ry group.

Joutomaa Fest 2017–2022: conceptualisation, curation and production of the visual arts section.
Puistosessarit 2019–2021: development and production of an outdoor event combining graffiti, skateboarding and live music.

Art education: part-time teacher of basic art education since 2017. Low-threshold workshops and clubs since 2019, including the ‘Children’s Culture Path’, clubs and camps commissioned by youth services, and the ‘Harrastamisen Suomi’ model. Temporary posts as an art teacher and special needs teacher at Langinkoski School.

Street art since 2008; first large-scale mural in 2016.

Member of the Kotka Artists’ Association since 2013; Chair 2022–24 and 26– (the association runs the Uusikuva Gallery).
