Helsingin Taiteilijaseura ry

Helsinki, Uusimaa

The Helsinki Artists’ Association promotes opportunities and the status of the visual arts sector through a wide range of educational, project and exhibition activities, as well as cross-sectoral collaboration.

The Helsinki Artists’ Association is an organisation founded in 1967 that promotes the professional interests of over 900 professional visual artists in Helsinki. The Society’s core activities include exhibitions and art lending, international activities, and the visual arts courses and training programmes offered by the School of Visual Arts and the Course Centre. In its work, the Society values sustainability, community spirit, professionalism, diversity, and ‘glocalism’ – a concept that combines local and international perspectives – and strives to promote the availability and accessibility of the visual arts.

Customer references

In addition to its core activities, the Helsinki Artists’ Association runs several projects aimed, amongst other things, at developing business services and promoting internationalisation and sustainability in the field of visual arts.

The art services development project, which began in 2021, concluded in April 2024. The project promoted the operational and employment opportunities of practitioners in the visual arts sector, as well as the usability of visual arts-based services. A sustainable service model was developed over the long term, based on and simultaneously developing the diverse professional expertise of artists, for use by businesses and public sector organisations in Helsinki. The model enables the integration of the visual arts and the professional expertise of visual artists into various spaces and work communities, making them part of everyday activities.

The development of art-based services began in 2021 with a project grant from the City of Helsinki. The development and piloting of the arts service package continued with a special grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture and the EU’s Next Generation programme between 2022 and 2024. This funding has promoted the renewal and digitalisation of services, production and operating models in the cultural and creative sectors.
