Nuorisoseura Motora ry
Joensuu, North Karelia
Motora is a youth club based in Joensuu that organises folk dance classes for children, young people and adults. Motora’s sporting, artistic and community-based activities are rooted in Finnish and Karelian traditions, whilst being adapted to the present day. Dance teachers (YAMK) are responsible for planning and delivering the programme. Motora has been active since 1968 and is a nationally significant and highly regarded folk dance club. Its 11 groups are made up of dancers of all ages, from toddlers to adults.
Motora’s groups perform frequently, both in their own region and at national and international festivals. Each year, between 5,000 and 15,000 spectators attend Motora’s performances. Alongside the traditional repertoire, new dance productions are created and workshops are organised. A core value of the organisation is growing together within a community that supports equality and encourages self-expression.
