Annika Lyytikäinen

Annika Lyytikäinen (b. 1995) is a Finland-Swedish clarinettist, composer and folk musician whose artistic work is centred on the clarinet as a versatile folk instrument. As well as being a master of European clarinet traditions, Annika is also a versatile ensemble musician, composer and teacher.

In 2014, Annika founded the Aléa duo together with kantele player Aurora Visa. In addition, Annika performs regularly with the ensembles Kymen Biisiuittamo, Helsinki Klezmer Kapelye and the Helsinki Middle Eastern Orchestra. Lyytikäinen has released music with, among others, the ensembles Aléa, Helsinki Klezmer Kapelye, Kymen Biisiuittamo and the SibA Folk Big Band.

Annika teaches students of all levels in person in Helsinki and remotely around the world. She also runs courses and workshops on folk clarinet playing, Finnish folk music and klezmer at festivals and educational institutions.

Annika Lyytikäinen graduated with a Master’s degree in music from the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts in 2021. For her Master’s recital, she composed the piece Höra for string quartet and clarinet, in which she naturally weaves together a synthesis of clarinet traditions from near and far.

Member of the folk music duo Aléa. Aléa has been performing actively since 2014, including at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival, Lempo, Doo-Bop club, Pato-klubi, churches and numerous school tours. The group also performs frequently at private events.

Between 2017 and 2024, Aléa performed at around twenty private events through the Sibelius Academy’s booking agency, Primo.

The chamber music piece Höra for clarinet and strings (2021), performed at venues including the Black Box at Musiikkitalo, the Sibelius Museum and the Sibelius Days in Loviisa.
